Withy Grove Vets – established with your animals in mind
Although Withy Grove Vets opened its doors in the 1970s, our story begins when Michael Clarke took over the reins in 1990.
Inspired in his youth by the famous veterinary novels of James Herriot, Michael decided to act on his passion for animal care by gaining veterinary qualifications from London University and, after picking up extensive experience in various other practices, electing to purchase his own practice.

Investing in training – for the best in veterinary care
Since that time, the surgery has expanded from one vet and three nurses to five vets and 16 nursing and supporting staff, each of whom can offer you the best in customer care. We are proud to still be an independently owned and family run practice.
Continuing in this tradition of excellence, Michael has spent his time joining every possible accreditation scheme. He is currently RCVS accredited, a Veterinary Nurse Training practice, a Rabbit and Cat Friendly (and dogs of course – but there is no award for this!) Practice and an Investor in People.
And, as better technology becomes available, you can guarantee that we’ll invest in it.
One of the most famous book titles from James Herriot’s series is All Creatures Great and Small– it’s a great description of the breadth of animals we provide first-rate, dedicated care to.
