This week was dominated by the medias interest in the Thorny Headed Worm of Hedgehogs (see a previous blog for details). Somehow the local press picked up on this (I like to think from reading my blog!) and they were quickly followed by local TV and radio.
We arranged to let the TV crew film in the surgery and sorted out Ian to come in specially to talk about the topic. Charlie, the other member of staff with the most knowledge on this subject, was off sick. Although these members of staff know the most about this parasite, there is not much known anywhere!
So we sorted all this out and at the last minute the TV people decided to go straight to Charlie’s home to film, they were there for 3 hours in freezing conditions with a sick Charlie who is also pregnant and when the piece appeared on the TV it was very short, didn’t mention our appeal for food/bedding/funds to help looking after the hedgehogs and didn’t mention the clinic at all. Ian had turned up at work for nothing!
We got much better exposure form the Lancashire Evening Post and local radio and the appeal for help has produced much needed aid so thanks to everyone who helped.
Other things were going on too of course, including our digital X ray machine breaking down last Saturday. You don’t realise how much you rely on these things until they are not there, despite paying a maintenance fee it took until Wednesday to get it up and running again!
