Last Monday we held our ‘Parasite Night’ in St Aidan’s church hall. The winter weather may have put off some people but over 80 clients attended and were alternately informed and made to cringe by vet Ian Wright’s fascinating presentation. Ian has an active interest in parasitology and is president of the European Scientific Counsel Companion Animal Parasites (ESCCAP). Ian detailed the main parasites our pets are infested with in this country and the methods used to control and treat them.
The evening was sponsored by four veterinary drug companies and was a fundraiser for local rehoming charity Homeless Hounds. Alongside the talk we had parasite labelled food (e.g.Tick Trifle), a raffle, ‘Guess the Number of Ticks in a Jar’ competition’ as well as parasite themed decorations such as flea seat row markers and knitted flea and tick table decorations.
The event was the brainchild of Maria Taylor, a senior nurse at the practice.
